You know that old saying about how it’s better to keep quiet and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth, and remove all doubt? Well, a hell of a lot of people have removed all doubt today in my mind.
I am sick of hearing people use what happened today as a platform from which to expound their views on guns. I do not give a fuck what you think about gun control, whether you’re for it or against it, and neither should anyone else. If they do, then they’re just like the rest of you sheeple - using this tragedy as an excuse to push an agenda.
It’s utterly disgusting and disrespectful to use the deaths of children as an excuse to push their views forward. TWENTY CHILDREN DIED, and the only thing so many people on my dash, twitter feed, and elsewhere seem to care about is gun laws.
Even worse are those of you outside the US using this as an excuse to gloat about how your gun control laws are so perfect, and nobody ever gets murdered because there are gun laws. YOU ARE GLOATING OVER THE DEATHS OF FIVE YEAR OLDS. What kind of monster are you? And what the hell good are your oh so wonderful gun laws going to do right now for the families of those kids? Anything? No? Then SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT IT.
NOW IS NOT THE TIME FOR YOUR BULLSHIT. Now is when we extend whatever sympathy and assistance we can to those in need.
Isn’t there something more meaningful and caring that you can add to the conversation? Maybe pass along hotline numbers to people who are triggered, or how about sending some parents you know a link to the Sesame Street PSA series aimed at helping families deal with it when the news of a tragedy becomes so pervasive that kids can’t help but hear about it?
There are plenty of things you could be doing in regards to this that are actually helpful. See if there’s a funeral fund being started for the families, and donate. See what the Red Cross is doing, and how you can help. Donate time, money, blood, whatever you’ve got the wherewithal to give.
Do something useful to help people, or express your sympathy, or fucking pray about it, or even just send good thoughts/vibrations their way. That’s fine. Those are all decent, good things to do in a tragedy. The rest of this bullshit is worthless, and if you’re perpetuating it, you’re a fucking jerk who doesn’t deserve my time today.
